Recycled Death

Recycled Death

Toledo, Ohio—The community of East Toledo is in shock following the tragic and bizarre death of 62-year-old Sheila Decoster, who suffocated after she fell, head-first, into her city-issued recycling container.
Lucas County Deputy Coroner, Diane Barnett, claimed she has never seen a case as unfortunate and strange in her 20 year career.
The coroner stated that the position in which Sheila fell ultimately caused her death; Decoster was not able to breathe properly while trapped in the container.
The tragedy, which occurred Friday night at the Decoster residence, has sent shockwaves through the community. Robert Decoster, Shelia’s husband for over 30 years, says he returned from work around 5 p.m. and did not see Sheila Decoster’s legs sticking out from the bin. Both the recycling and trash containers were on the ground next to the couple’s raised porch.
After a few hours, Decoster finally noticed his wife’s lifeless legs hanging from the bin. At this point he ran over, shook her legs and freed her from the container. Unfortunately it was too late.
Robert says the couple keeps the containers in the place, facing away from the home, to make the transfer to the curb easier. He stated that Sheila had a bad back and recently had knee replacement surgery—both likely contributors to her unfortunate fall and death.

Roommate gets Stuffed

Roommate gets Stuffed

Bronx, New York–A Bronx woman admitted, on Tuesday morning, to stuffing her dead roommate in a suitcase and ditching him outside an abandoned home.  In response to the harrowing act, the woman insists she did nothing wrong.
Monique Exum, aged 36, stuffed her deceased roommate, Johnny Davis (aged 73), into one of the man’s suitcases after she found his corpse in their Fish Avenue apartment on May 31. Exum claims she removed the body to avoid trouble;  the woman’s actions were prompted on a close friend’s absurd advice.
“My friend told me if someone dies in your apartment you go to jail, so I got really afraid,” Exum told police officers. “I had no idea what to do.”
Heeding the illogical advice of her friend, Exum reportedly wheeled the suitcase down three flights of stairs, then across a few blocks, to the porch of an abandoned home at 1309 Needham Eve in Williamsbridge. After finding what she thought was the appropriate resting place of her deceased roommate, Exum wrote “rest in peace” on a strip of cardboard and left it atop the luggage.
Davis’ corpse was crammed in the suitcase for over three months; the body wasn’t discovered until Sunday, following a call from a suspicious neighbor. Investigators found the badly decomposed body of Davis shortly after the call concerning a “suspicious package.” The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy later this week to determine the cause of death. Exum is being charged with improper body removal and is being held on a $500 bond. Police continue to investigate the peculiar incident.

Al Qaeda Strikes Again: 77 U.S. Soldiers Injured in Suicide Bombing

All 77 NATO Service Members who were wounded in a Saturday attack against a coalition base in Afghanistan are American troops, a spokeswoman for the International Security Assistance said Monday.
The truck bombing took place in the central-east province of Wardak–Two Afghan civilians were killed and 25 others were severely wounded in the attack which took place on the eve of the 10th anniversary of Al Qaeda’s attack on the United States on September 11th.
“This attack was a high-profile strike. It was a significant suicide vehicle bomb,” General John Allen, commander of coalition and U.S. forces in Afghanistan told various media outlets.
The Taliban forces claimed responsibility for the assault; NATO’s International Security Assistance Force confirmed the attack was carried out by a Taliban suicide bomber.
The majority of the soldiers wounded in the attack sustained only minor injuries–it is  assumed they will fully recover within the upcoming days.
General Allen said the attack indicated “much more what the Taliban are unable to do” than what they are able to do. They have been ejected from the population in so many places around the country that their only ability to influence the battlefield on many occasions is simply to go for a high-profile attack”

Bear Murders Girl as Mother Listens in Horror

Bear Murders Girl as Mother Listens in Horror

Olga Moskalyova, aged 19, was studying psychology on a Siberian camping trip with her stepfather, Igor Tsyganenkov, when the two were attacked by a mother bear and her cubs. The attack was vicious—Igor was almost killed instantly when the mother bear violently stomped on him, breaking his neck and crushing his skull.
Olga initially managed to flee the attack and call her mom to relay the horror. At first, Olga’s mom thought the girl was playing a cruel joke, but the expected ruse turned to sheer horror when Olga was chased down by the mother bear.
Olga made it less than 100 yards before the mother bear caught the girl. “Mum, the bear is eating me! Mum, it’s such agony,” Olga screamed into the phone. Helpless and heartbroken, Olga’s mother listened to every second of the carnage. The growls were only masked by the sounds of chewing.
An excruciating hour had passed before the two lost contact, but Olga managed to relay some loving thoughts before she died. “Mum, it’s not hurting anymore,” Olga said during her final minutes. “I don’t feel the pain. Forgive me for everything. I love you so much.”
After the call was dropped, Olga’s mother immediately contacted the police, but by the time they reached the scene, both Olga and her stepfather were dead. Police and a band of hunters set-out after the bears, but there is no confirmation as to whether the animals have been killed.

Neighbors of Lydia Price knew long ago that there was something wrong with the woman’s home in Berwyn, Illinois. Her five kids were seldom seen out of the home and they maintained no contact with the other kids in the community. These peculiar characteristics were minute; however, compared to the overwhelming stench the home emitted.
Price’s husband, Robert Degner, was arrested back in 2007 for home invasion—he was subsequently sentenced to 25 years in prison. During the time of his arrest, Degner’s sister-in-law contacted child services asking social workers to initiate routine checks on the couple’s children.
Apparently her request fell on deaf ears; child services didn’t even file a report. Neighbors, who were perpetually skeptical of the home, routinely contacted Berwyn police to conduct a search of the residence. But law enforcement also refused to respond, dismissing the calls as petty neighborhood quarrels.
This all changed last week when neighbors called police to say there was a dead boy on Price’s front lawn. When police arrived, they found the body of Matthew Degner, aged 14, lying motionless in front of the home’s dilapidated porch. Upon review, a medical examiner ruled that the autistic youth died from bronchopneumonia.
The scene went from sad to horrific when police entered the home.
Five children, ages 12 to 18, lived in the home, alongside more than 200 animals, many of them deceased. The home was covered in feces and infested with roaches and spiders. The plumbing, refrigerator, washer and dryer were all broken. The children, due to the ridiculous population of animals, were forced to sleep on the floors, which were of course, covered in feces.
None of the children attended school; they played second fiddle to the animals. In total, there were 109 cats, three dogs, 39 birds, a raccoon and an assortment of other rodents–most of them dead or obscenely malnourished.
Matthew’s sisters were immediately taken by child protection services, while the 18-year old remains hospitalized with severe flu-like conditions. Price has been charged with hundreds of counts of animal cruelty, criminal neglect of a disabled child and child endangerment.
To make matters even more disturbing, no family member has bothered to claim Matthew’s body from the morgue.

Big Bully: Long Island Mom Starts School Fights

Big Bully: Long Island Mom Starts School Fights

A Long Island mother was arrested after encouraging two 12-year-old girls to fight each other outside of their elementary school. After this peculiar call to arms, the mother then encouraged the girls to beat any girls who watched the fiasco. The fight, which spread like wildfire thanks to Facebook, drew a large crowd, prompting the two girls to partake in a royal rumble of sorts.
Daphne Melin, aged 32, egged the girls to brawl outside of William Floyd Elementary School in Shirley, New York on Sunday Afternoon, Suffolk Count Police have reported. Law enforcement officials say that Melin “made literally no effort to stop the brawl.”
Melin brought her 12-year-old daughter to the school to physically sort-out an issue she had with another student–the feud started over a dispute on Facebook. When the adversary never showed for the fight, another student stepped-in to fight Melin’s daughter. Melin, as oppose to defusing the situation, encouraged one of the bystanders to attack the feisty volunteer.
Melin, for some twisted reason, wanted to see 12-year-olds fight each other. When a student shouted at Melin, “you shouldn’t be doing this. You should be stopping the fight,” Melin pushed the girl to the ground and kicked her in the head. Although the insane asylum is the appropriate destination for Melin, she is currently being held by Police.

$2 Billion-Dollar Loss

$2 Billion-Dollar Loss

Swiss banking giant UBS discovered that a series of unauthorized trades has cost the international power an estimated $2 billion. The unauthorized trading (conducted by an unidentified trader in its investment banking branch) could wind-up costing the bank a record loss in the third quarter of this year.
A loss of this magnitude is unheard of; only three or four other situations have sparked such a widespread loss in the history of trading.
Market analyst, Ralph Silva, outlined three possible ways a loss that significant could take place: “basic stupidity” in trading strategy, intentional fraud, or what the industry calls “fat fingers”, which means typing the wrong numbers by accident.
Perhaps the trader threw in a few extra zeros—instead of purchasing a million shares he or she bought a hundred million.
UBS says that no client positions are affected by the loss, which is currently under an intense investigation.
In perhaps a related story, Police in London arrested a man in the early hours of Thursday morning on suspicion of fraud. Officials revealed the arrest of the 31-year-old-man in London, the British capital’s banking district, shortly after the bank announced its historic loss. Although officials have declined to confirm whether the arrest was linked to the Swiss bank’s loss, many close to the situation believe the incidents are related.
UBS declined to comment on the arrest.
The loss would be among the largest costs ever to a bank conducting unauthorized trades. Rogue trader Jerome Kerviel cost his French institution, Societe General, almost $6 billion last year—Kerviel was sentenced to three years in prison.
Shares of UBS were down roughly 8.5% about five hours after the loss was announced

Blood Money: 17-Year Old Beats Wealthy Parents to Death

Blood Money: 17-Year Old Beats Wealthy Parents to Death

17-year-old John Granat began showing signs of violent behavior early last year, when his parents discarded the teen’s stash of marijuana. Granat’s close Friends new his intentions; the teen routinely made threats against his parents after they had disposed of his weed. Unfortunately, nobody contacted the police.
The tragic call came into the sheriff’s office at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. The teen summoned police to his parent’s mansion in Palos Park, a wealthy Chicago suburb. When police arrived, they found the bodies of John Granat Sr., aged 44, and his wife, Maria, 42, dead in their bedroom.
John Sr. was bludgeoned to death and Maria, in addition to being bludgeoned, was stabbed multiple times. John Granat Jr. was arrested for the slayings.
When John Jr. made the call to Police he claimed intruders had robbed and murdered his parents. But like any good psychopath, Grenut Jr. changed his story and told police a friend needed money, so he had given the individual permission to enter the home. That story, like the one before, fell apart when detectives began interviewing friends and found that Jr. had repeatedly threatened to kill his parents in the past.
John Jr. was a student at Stagg High School in Palos Hiss. His father was a successful contractor who neighbors described as “loving and friendly.” The family was described as ideal; Linda Falkenburg, who lived behind the Granats, told the Chicago Tribune, “They were the sweetest, most perfect family. I feel like I just lost a family member. I can’t imagine why anyone would do something like this.”
Granat Jr is currently awaiting trial for double-homicide; the judge has denied the youth bail.

True Blood Comes to Florida

True Blood Comes to Florida

St. Petersburg– Talk about strange–it doesn’t get much weirder than this story. St. Petersburg Police claim that at midnight on Friday, September 9, on the porch of a vacant restaurant, an elderly homeless man in a wheelchair was brutally attacked by a woman who said she was a vampire.
If you take the insane woman at her word, then 22-year-old Josephine Smith is an immortal power lurking in the shadows of a Florida city. Police claim the 69-year-old man was sleeping in his wheelchair on a porch when he woke up to Smith on top of him, eating his face. Milton Ellis, the victim, had to be hospitalized and stitched as chunks of flesh were missing from his arm, lips and face.
Police say Smith shouted at her victim during the attack: “I’m a vampire and I’m going to eat you.” Ellis was able to cry for help. When local authorities arrived, they found Smith still on the porch, naked from the waist down and covered in Ellis’ blood.
When taken into custody, Smith told police she had no recollection of the attack or why she was naked and covered in blood.

‘Brain Eating Amoeba’ Claims another Life

‘Brain Eating Amoeba’ Claims another Life

Atlanta—Two children and a young man have fallen victim this summer to a brain-eating amoeba that lives in water, health officials say.
This month, the rare and deadly infection took the life of a 16-year-old Florida girl, who fell ill after swimming, and a 9-year-old Virginia boy, who died a week after attending his annual fishing day camp.
These case are consistent with past cases, which have taken the lives of young people who become exposed to the bug while swimming, playing or partaking in water sports in warm lakes or ponds.
The third and most recent case, which took place in Louisiana, strayed in regards to what precipitated the infection. The third victim, a young man, became inflicted with the fatal disease after using a neti pot—a small teapot-shaped container used to rinse out the nose and sinuses with salt water to relieve congestion and allergies.
Health officials found that the amoeba was living in the young man’s water system. The problem, in this bizarre case, was confined to the individual’s home—it was not found in city water samples.
The illness in question is extremely rare—approximately 120 U.S. cases (almost all of which resulted in death) have been reported since the bacteria was identified in the early 1960s.
The amoeba, known as Naegleria Fowleri, boroughs through the victim’s nose and into the skull, where it ultimately destroys brain tissue. It lives in warm lakes and rivers, primarily in the South, during the hot summer months.
Although these cases are not increasing, the amoeba’s actions remain a mystery—doctors are perplexed as to why some, who swim in amoeba-containing water, contract the fatal nervous system condition while many others do not.
